Full question
We’ve just bought a large rundown, perhaps uncared for is the better term, house in the south west of France 20 steps from the ocean. We get the keys on friday. My problem, it was built as 6 flats some 30 years ago, (so no beautiful beams and fireplaces) and not been touched since.
We want to live in the flat on the 1st floor, and then turn three of the small flats on the ground floor,into rooms for my B&B, and then use the other two larger ground floor flats as Gités.
Nothing has been renewed or decorated during this time, I have bright orange 80’s wall tiles just as an example.
As we are on the beach I have no problem in collecting drift wood, shells, stones etc.
I know money has to be spent ( no heating just for a start) but I need ideas, themes, colours.I really need those themes.
well I feel a lot better now, I’ve passed my problem onto someone else, I’ll just go off and have a glass of wine and look at the ocean.
My answer:
I suggest that you work with themes. From a business perspective, this has great potential. If you name each room, based on the theme in that room, you can do your website (if you have one) with the rooms listed by name and a brief description of the theme.
The style, shape, and size of each room will probably dictate the appropriate theme - these are just some “theme” ideas:
* Victorian
* Cottage
* Garden
* Country
* Seaside
* Southwestern
* Modern
* Pub
* Cabin/Woodsy
* Vintage (many different eras could be selected)
My last house had 14 rooms…and I did each one in a different theme. That was more fun than I can accurately describe!
