Full Question:
My name is Karrie and I hail from Illinois. Fall is my favorite time of year and I love seasonal decor for fall. I love all the rich colors. I just repainted my dining room a very light blue, with white woodwork. I am trying to get an “airy bright cheerful, possibly cottage look” going. White table cloth, white dining room chairs. Got any ideas on how I could bring in some fall looks with the light blue? I have a round table in the corner of the room I could easily put a mum or some fall foliage on. I have a fall table cloth that is red, tan and gold with leaves on it, but I cant see that matching in anyway right now…even tho I love that tablecloth.
My answer:
I agree with you! Fall is also my favorite time of year! Here are my fall decoeating suggestions for your color scheme:
1. Yellow is a color that works really well with light blue, and is a fall color. Yellow mums, yellow leaves and yellow gourds would all work.
2. Consider putting some branches in clear vases also. Just plain branches, or ones with yellow leaves.
4. In fact, white glassware would also look fine with nuts, pinecones, seeds…. lots of naturals.
5. I was trying to think of yellow foods that you could use for decorarting. You could put lemons in a clear glass vase along with those branches I mention above.
I agree with you about your tablecloth not really working for this room. Maybe it would work as a table cover, furniture throw or curtain swag in another room of your home - perhaps even a shower curtain using clips to hang it.

All earth tones, bone, browns, ecru or beige, go well with blue hues. Just like the sea and the beach or the sky, shells and drift wood!A collection of old plates in those tones, cinnamon colored and scented candles in pewter or antique silver,a broad striped light brown curtains and beige and natural tones floral(preferably roses) throw pillows and napkins to put casually aside a pretty tea cup and saucer, a piece of driftwood and a faux cut cristal table lamp to dress your round table and switch all your white accents for ecru or the like. I just can hear the sound of the sea and feel the chilly breeze of fall of The Hamptons.Just a suggestion.

Blue goes well with earth tones ige, ecru and brown. Just like the sea and the sky go with sand and driftwood. Substitute all your whites with ecru or sand hues, place light brown wide striped curtains. For a cottage accent point dress your round table with a beige tablecloth, place a pretty cup and saucer witha casually folded floral napkin( preferablya roses)in darker shade, driftwood and a faux cristal tablelamp. Use old plates and china on shelves, table, etc. in the suggested colors.
