Full question:

Do you have any ideas on what to use to texture a wall? I am closing off a doorway and creating a solid wall, but both sides of the wall are textured. How do I go about texturing the “patch” so that it blends with the rest of the wall? Can I buy “lumpy paint”?

Help! Running out of time, before I have to start moving my furniture in.

My answer:

Yes, you can buy texturized paint at places like Lowes or Home Depot. They may be able to match colors for you also. Matching it perfectly, may be a bit tricky though.

However, being the Frugal person that I am, I choose to make my own lumpy paint and work it into the design on the wall for a blending effect or just make another design altogether.

I’ve done this two ways:

1. I’ve added kitty litter (or some other lumps) to paint and put it up. I used the regular clay kind (non-clumping) because I wanted a more grainy look. The thing I wanted to make sure was that I had the texture I wanted and it didn’t brush off easily. There is also a type of sand you can buy to add to paint to give it a grainy look, but it all depends on the type of texture you are trying to achieve.

or

2. I have added the colored paint to spackling mudd (mix it well), and put it up with a large damp sponge, by blotting it to the wall.

Don’t know what kind of “lumps” you have but one of these may work.
