Full question:

Do you have suggestions as to how to get slipcovers to stay in place? There is a tool I’ve seen in a Domestications Catalog that is supposed to slip down to hold it in place. Has anyone tried something like that? If only my boys wouldn’t squirm when they sit on the couch- not to mention all the other things that little boys do . . . :)

My answer:

1. Roll up magazines and stuff them down inside the edges of the furniture. I put mine along the back and sides of the furniture pieces. The more space the magazines take up of the loose fabric, the less fabric will pull out when the slipcovers are sat on.

2. Use toilet paper and paper towels rolls to do the same thing. Only stuff the insides of them with newspaper, rags, other “trash” paper, to make them weigh more. They won’t crush as easy and will hold better.

3. Using safety pins, pin the slipcovers along the edges where the pins won’t be seen and the chances of a pin opening and sticking someone are non existent. The one problem I see with this option is that, although it may hold the best out of all of them, it is also the option that is most likely to cause a tear in the slipcover.
