Full question:

Hello, I’m always on here reading the great ideas you have, sooo now I have a question of my own..how can I update two fans in my house that are old and ugly..can’t afford new ones and the most I can spend on them is $0 to $20. The colors on the fan blades are old fashioned..I think these fans are at least 25-30 years old, so imagine.

My answer:

If they are the kind with the glass globe lights on them, those frosted glass globes can be dyed using RIT dye.

If they are plain fans, the blades can have any and all of the following done to them:

* They can be painted with spray paint. They can also be sponged, or ragged, or feather dusted, or any technique that is used on walls. They can be stencilled and designs can be free-hand painted on them.

Some instructions are here.

* They can also be decoupaged with any papers - newspaper, postcards, ads, stamps, wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, tissue paper. You have to seal them real good with polyurethane so you can still clean them.

* You can cover them with wallpaper - and add trims of all kinds to them.
