Full Question:
I need budget friendly solution to decorate my livingroom/dining room combo room. Right now we have brown leather sofa and loveseat.
We will be replacing the dinette set because its old and does not fit with the decor we want now. I would like to make the room very comfy and warm. There is a fireplace. We can not paint because we are renting. I need colors to go with the brown leather furniture. So far I have come up with maybe orange,cream or turquoise or gold.
And I dont know what kind of accessories to use. Everything has to be kid friendly since I have 2 small kids under the age of two.
I will be making the throw pillows and wall art. Plan do some canvas art in large scale for the blank walls.
We have a ghastly brown carpet that covers the whole house.
I think my style is modern. But I want to keep the place child friendly due to such small kids. I think I like teal/turquoise & brown combo best. I guess what I need help with is accessoring and ways to soften the look of the brown leatherĀ and the brown carpet.
Right now painting is not an option. Dont have time with a 6 week old.
Anymore ideas?
My Answer:
A “child friendly option” in your case is fabric. Anything in fabric is both safe and washable. Fabric accessories would include:
* Pillows
* Curtains
* Furniture Skirts
* Furniture throws
* Throw rugs
* Placemats
* Floor seat cushions
* Table covers
* Runners
You can also:
* Frame fabric as wall art
* Spray paint boxes and baskets for storage
* Use silk flowers, in your colors, arranged in plastic vases
* Accent with silk trees (with no moss in their basket)
* Use minilights under curtains and table covers, in silk trees, and in containers
With all the brown you have already, your teal would be the next color to add, and then maybe a tiny bit of black. Black is a very good “modern” color and adds a bit of “chic” to any room I have ever seen.
