How can I use lighter shades of jeweltone colors in my rooms?

Full question:

For a color scheme, I intend to use purple/lavender/some brown accents. I did some research on color schemes and learned that purple, red, brown all compliment each other. If we go with a lighter shade of purple (more lavendar, less dark amethyst) - would jewel tones colors work well? I have considered using the jewel tones for the room, since I love jewelry (amethyst, garnet, sapphire), but I did wonder what color to do the walls in if we went with the strong jewel tone colors. I don’t know how they will do in this room. What do you think?

My answer:

I think you can make it work. You would use the same shades of the jeweltone colors as your lavendar is. To find out what those might be, find a paint sample card with your shade of lavendar on it. Those cards usually have five or so colors on each card. Let’s say your shade is the second one on the card.

Then find a red, or emerald or sapphire paint sample card. Look at the second color sample of that/those cards and they will be the same “shade” (only a different COLOR) as your lavendar.

And consider a touch of black. For some reason, a little black adds some “posh-ness”, I guess is a good word, to the room’s look.
