Full Question

My daughter is a senior in high school this year. She has dropped a hint that she would like for me to make her a scrapbook. The problem is, I have so many ideas I don’t know where to start! I had thought about putting all of her pictures in it - kindergarten through senior year. Plus I want to add cheerleading pics, school dances, pics of friends, etc. The problem is I have no idea how to make it organized. Do you have ideas? I am new to scrapbooking and have been looking online for ideas . . . the more I look, the more confused I become! Thanks!

My answer:

I am currently doing something similar for all three of my kids for Christmas. Because the project is SO BIG, I have elected to do multiple scrapbooks, each with a different theme. The one that is completed (all three copies) is the one that focuses on their youth and our family (aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc). Each album contains the same pages of the “family” stuff , and then each has individual pages for each child’s childhood life and activities. I did pages for each child’s name - its meaning, and origin, and put a baby picture on the name pages. I put each of the three name pages in each of the three scrapbooks so they all know what each of their siblings names mean.

The “individual” pages in each book focus on each child’s talents. One is an artist, one works with animals, and one plays guitar and works with computers.

The end result of THESE scrapbooks is more of a “heritage, family tree, life talents” record.

Then I started scrapbooks with “event” themes. My daughter’s wedding, my son’s graduation, my other son’s first apartment. These are smaller books (except the wedding one) and very personal. If I were in your shoes, I’d be making a cheer-leading one, a graduation one, a childhood one - but that is JUST ME! I like having the whole book be themed because I make the whole scrapbook look like a real book - with the page graphics matching or complementary.

Lastly, I have almost completed a family recipe scrapbook for each one. I gathered recipes from all those aunts, grandparents and me, and made pages with photos and recipes (even copied the old recipe cards with all the spatters on them). Again, this is a “theme” which I find easier to work with. Pictures of Aunt Arlene are with recipes from Aunt Arlene. Pictures and recipes from relatives who have passed on that my kids never knew, but are part of their family tree, are also included.

So my focus has really been on themes. Plus, *I* feel like I accomplished things faster. With the scrapbooks being smaller, it doesn’t take so long for one to be “done”.
