How do I make a scrapbook?

Full question:
I am eager to learn scrapbooking by doing it myself. Have never done it and do not really know how, but have seen other peoples albums and seen at the stores the various things they sell.
Just wondering if there is a website which would be helpful with various ideas. Or can you tell me how to plan making an album. Want to do a simple project so share your suggestions. Thanks.
My answer:
Welcome to a new craft with endless creative opportunities! I’ll give you a rough idea of how to get started. If you have access to a library, you may also want to check out some scrapbooking books to get some more creative ideas. Ok, to get started you need:
1. A scrapbook. These come in lots of shapes and sizes. “Normal” scrapbooking paper comes in 12×12 sheets, so you may want to start with that size.
2. Scrapbook pages. 12×12 sheets of paper in lots of styles and colors. My dollar store sells the sheets for three for a dollar.
3. Your pictures. If you want to keep the originals or share them with more than one person, get copies made. Color copies can be made at most office supply stores and drug stores. Look for “acid-free” paper to make the copies on, if doing them yourself. “Acid free” paper ensures that your pages and photos have less chance of deteriorating over time.
4. Glue. I like glue sticks, myself. “Wet” glue like common white glue, leaves wrinkles on paper when it dries.
That’s all you NEED. You may want “embellishments” like:
* Buttons
* Beads
* Stickers
* Paper scraps
* Ribbon, lace, string
* And so much more. The chances are really good that you already have stuff around the house that you can use, without buying anything. Think “outside the box” on this. Things like torn brown paper grocery bags, scraps of wrapping paper, wallpaper, or newspaper make great scrapbook page accents.
Oh, and how to make those things acid-free? Here’s a technique you can make at home:
1. Dissolve two antacid tablets in a liter of club soda.
2. Place your items to be deacified in this solution for 30 minutes.
3. Remove carefully and let dry.
Hope you find this helpful!
