Full question:

I just purchased an older mobile home that needs a face lift!! New rugs, wallpaper, paint, ect. And of coarse very limited funds or help. Any ideas would be helpful.

My answer:

Ok, just some “general” quick change, easy, cheap decorating ideas:

1. If the place is already wall-papered with paper you don’t love, but can “stand”, adding a border will change the whole look. Consider running it along the bottom of the wall, the top of the wall, in the middle of the wall - all of these or a combination of them.

You can also make border “frames”. Lay four pieces on the wall in the shape of a frame (consider angling the corners like a picture frame)… then hang something you love in the center.

2. A lot of mobile homes have paneling. We have just had a discussion on this board about painting paneling, which can be done, no problem. You can also wallpaper over it.

3. Long time readers of this board know I hate to paint. REALLY hate to paint. So, if you have “painted” walls, you can do what I did with some of my walls. I kept the “colors” that were on the walls and then used rags, feather dusters, crumpled paper, etc. to add depth, dimensions and other colors. I didn’t have to be careful around the trim. I didn’t care if the coats were all even - I didn’t want them to be. So this was the EASIEST way for me to change “the paint”.
