Full questtion:
It just so happens that since we moved (last year to the hinterlands and away from my oldest daughter ;o(… We have rented and are in desparate need of space…I mainly need ideas … “very low budget”) to get my ton of books organized. I have 4X6 ft. shelving and can only put these on the floor… any ideas on other storage ideas… or what I could use to hold these shelves together in grand bd stlye.
) I thought of bricks etc… but cannot find them as of yet. Ideas?
My answer:
Ok, I think you’re asking for ideas on book storage, since your other storage option doesn’t give you enough space, right? If so, here are some book storage ideas (And if I have this wrong as to what you need, feel free to straighten me out).
* If you have a staircase that has a bannister, stand books in between the rails of the bannister, sitting on the steps. Mine look best with the spines pointing outward from the bannister.
* Lay books on their sides, with the spines facing the same direction and use under lamps, vases, or collectibles as “lifts”. I used books that were “room appropriate” - office books in the office, cookbooks in the kitchen, relaxing books in the bedroom, etc.
* Shelves mounted above windows are usually short and strong. Books look GREAT over windows.
* I have small tables with legs throughout the house (end tables, accent tables, side tables). I stand books in between the legs with all their spines facing out. I also did this in between the legs of both sides of my buffet.
* As the example for what my frugal little ezine is about, I say this:
Use hardcover books as the “legs” of a coffee table. Add a glass top. For a uniform look, cover the books in all the same paper - newspaper, newsprint, wrapping paper or wallpaper.
