Full question:
I’m looking for advise on how to repair an area of my front porch ceiling. I stupidly sprayed a hornet’s nest with my garden hose and the pressure from the water damaged a corner of the ceiling surface. I believe the surface is plaster because it is thin and smooth but I’m not skilled in that area and am not sure what to do about fixing area to match the rest of the ceiling. The damage is also on a taped seam so that compounds the problem. Any ideas?
My answer:
Not sure how much damage you sustained, but if it is water damage, I’ve handled that before. If there is sheet rock or plaster repair needed, I hired someone to do that because I don’t know how. The laundryroom in my old house was on the second floor and the washer leaked all over the floor one time, causing it to rain in the downstairs. I had to have the “holes from fallen ceiling areas” repaired by a contractor, but the water damaged repair in the bathroom downstairs was an easy fix. Lowes (and probably every home repair store) sells a stain sealing product. It’s white in color, and does two things – covers the stain and doesn’t allow it to bleed through like plain latex paint would. I had a white ceiling tiled ceiling in that bathroom, and covered the water stains with this product. It’s water soluable so cleanup was easy, and once done, no one (but me because I knew) could tell where the stain had been.
