Making Stocking Holders

Full question:

I want to try to make my own stocking holders, the things that you sit on the mantel and the stockings hang from it. I’ve tried looking on line for something but haven’t had luck. After christmas last year I looked for some in clearance but didn’t find anything either. I realize I need to use something that has a heavy bottom so it can support the stocking and stay sitting on the mantel. Crazy request but what could it hurt to ask?

My answer:

I have been thinking about this. If you added a cuphook to something that had a large enough surface area to keep it balanced, that would work. So I started thinking about what you could add a cuphook to. These are the things I thought of:

Wooden holiday bookends

Wooden-based candleholders (as long as these were heavy enough. I have a pair of marble candleholders that have a wooden base)

Wooden bowls of holiday ornaments

If you want to drill holes into things, that would expand your options - drilling into something plastic may open up an idea for you.
