Full question:
I live in a colonial style home with a huge Family room. A fire place is in the center exterior wall. Ceiling to floor windows are at each end. The interior wall has two openings, one at each end of the interior wall - 1. to the foyer, 2. to the eat in kitchen. What is the best way to lay out the living room furniture, without spacing everything out. Should I create two areas in one?
Here are some some general suggestions. With pictures, I coudl offer more ideas.
A fireplace is commonly chosen as the focal point of the room. With a large room, you may want to place a backless couch centered in the room right in front of the fireplace - something that someone could sit on facing either direction. Then you could make a sitting area around the fireplace for colder weather and another facing the other direction from warmer times.
With those big windows, if the view is nice , you may want to put a small eating area - someplace for coffee or tea.
